Clay Lane see's the 1st XV win at home for the first time this season!

After last week’s bonus point win away to Hoylake Bowdon were looking to make it 2 wins from 2 at home to a tough Glossop outfit. With several injuries and call offs it was a bit of a makeshift side that took to the Clay lane pitch on Saturday. Under bright skies but a noticeable breeze blowing straight down the pitch Bowdon started like most games this season - letting the opposition open the scoring within the first 10 minutes! The trusty boot of Glossop’s No 10 giving them 3 points after holding on at a ruck!

Just after that those on the touch line witnessed a bit of History! No not TC apologising for an indiscretion but the Avro Vulcan flying over Manchester airport on its way to is spiritual home of Woodford on its final flight!

Back to the rugby and Swets boot brought parity to the scores on 10 minutes. A few minutes later and Bo’ took the lead. From an attacking lineout Linky fired the ball to the middle, unfortunately (or fortunately) Sam was somewhere else. The ball fell into Luke Browns hands - not only that but the normally tight Glossop defence also opened up giving him a free run to the line and space to trot to the posts for good measure, giving Swets the easiest of kicks for the conversion.

As with everything Bowdon this season - We decided to give the opposition a helping hand! Liam Connolly deciding he needed to have a 10 minute break he tried to cuddle the opposition, but forgot to welcome his opposite number with open arms! The Bowdon defence stood firm for the 10 minutes we were a man short, Glossop failing to capitalise on their numerical advantage to trouble the scoreboard. In fact the rest of the scoring of the half came in the last 8 minutes with the Glossop 10 outscoring Swets 2 Penalties to 1 Giving Bowdon a lead 13 points to 9.

One Minute into the second half and Stuart Lindsay intercepted on the 10 meter line and scored out wide for an unconverted try. Glossop came back with a couple of tries of their own, this was split by a Bo’ penalty to bring the scores to 21 all mid way through the half. It looked here like Bowdon were beginning to struggle with a few niggles entering their play as the penalty count in this half racked up! Luckily for Bowdon, Glossop were facing the wind and the penalties were just out of range for the fly half to have a crack at the posts!

With 13 minutes to go a strong Bo’ surge into the Glossop half saw a maul careering towards the goal line. As it crashed over Liam Connolly was the last man up - making up for his yellow with a try to seal the victory! To make sure of the points Swets brought his penalty tally to 4 with 5 minutes to go! Giving a final score of Bowdon 29 : 21 Glossop.
Man of the Match was Luke Brown - not just for his super try - showing that he is awake on the pitch! But also for his 5 turnovers! Dick of the Day was for Liam for his 10 minute break midway through the first half!
