Bowdon Play their ‘Get Out Of Jail Free’ Card and get 4 point as they Pass Go!

The bare facts of this match were that Bowdon performance was such that we should have been lucky to come away with a draw! But as things are sometimes the score belies the performance! And for once the score in this instance was in our favour! Too many times over recent years has a good Bowdon performance frustratingly come to nothing as the opposition took all the points! This time the Rugby Gods decided that we would come away with the points!

The first half was a rufty toughty affair with lots of huff and puff but not much scoring. Wigan took the lead with a penalty, Bowdon scored our own, at the 3rd attempt, by Swets. Wigan then took the lead with another! At half time and with a 3 point deficit Playing 14 men

5 minutes into the second half Wigan extended their lead scoring a converted try. A couple more penalty misses could have reduced the deficit but as things were going it wasn’t his day kicking off the tee! Twenty five minutes in and success at last from Swets - not off the tee but another monstrous Drop Goal – not quite as good as the one 2 seasons ago! But bloody wonderful all the same!

With seven minutes left and with the assembled VPs cowering over by the club house from the sporadic showers Bowdon took the ball to within ten meters of the Wigan line out on the left. Several charges at the Wigan defence and the ball had moved over to the right and a couple of meters out. One last push and over the line the ball went a quick check and the Ref blew for the Bowdon try - Liam Connolly last man up with the ball in hand! From way out on the right Stuart Lindsay took over kicking duties - at least when there was a tee involved. With a mighty hoof the ball flew over the cross bar. The game was now tied!

The gathered supporters (at least the Bowdon ones anyway) were relieved and they would settle for a draw and a share of the spoils! Some more indiscipline from Wigan with only 3 minutes to go and Stuart Kicked a penalty to Put Bowdon in the lead for the first time all afternoon! With less than a minute Liam Connolly strayed off side only 20 meters out and near the middle of the park! This looked like the easiest Kick Wigan had to rescue a draw. Somehow the pressure must have got to the kicker who pushed the ball wide! The ref blowing for full time as the ball clattered off the club house roof!

4 points secured and a jump up the league to 7th place, leapfrogging our opponents on the way! Not the best performance but a win is a win! Man of the Match - Stuart Lindsay.
