Bowdon triumph with a first away win of the season as the Indian summer continues.......

Tyldesley 8 - 22 Bowdon

Despite losing prop Neal Collinge [ replacement Martin Gallagher ] within 3 minutes with a damaged knee Bowdon began this game at a furious pace. Pinning home side Tydesley within their own half and mainly inside their 22m for the first 20 minutes. Chances for both wings Gare and Bau were spurned as was an early penalty conversion attempt by Armstrong. The forwards imposed a structured game onto the opposition as D.J.Brown and Jim Calveley drove into the opposition. However when hooker Stuart Rice had to be escorted from the field concussed by physio Tracey Matthews the complexion of the game took a sudden turn. Uncontested scrums disrupted Bowdon's flow and allowed Tyldesley captain and centre Mark Dickinson to Marshall his troops into the game. With guaranteed possession the Tyldesley back row made ground providing stand off Halliwell room to bring his backline into play and on 17 minutes the Tyldesley 12 kicked a penalty to take the lead 3 - 0. The remainder of the half was a scrappy, stop start affair with Bowdon fortunate to withhold the 3 point deficit as they struggled to regain composure and self belief.

Words of wisdom from coach Bamma at half time did the trick as Bowdon immediately enforced a tighter game plan and 3 minutes in centre Setareki Kolinisau scored the first try of the game. 3 - 5. Tyldesley replied within minutes when from a penalty line out catch and drive number 6 Shaun Pullman drove over in the Bowdon left corner to regain the lead. 8 - 5. Slowly and inevitably the Bowdon grip on the game tightened as locks Lamb and D.J.Brown constantly drove into the opposition supported well by back row Tim Nicholson and Jim Calvely. Forcing penalties on 9 and 15 minutes as Luke Brown forced his way forward Bowdon began to pull away and the scoreboard ticked over showing a the lead of 8 -11.On 26 minutes as Tyldesley soaked up the ever increasing pressure scrum half John Blackwell saw an opportunity and released his backs from the opposition 22m as right wing Verti Bau looped round to take the pass at a sublime angle dissecting the home defense with skill to give a lead of 8 points 8 - 16. Despite their best efforts Tyldesley rarely troubled Bowdon in the second half and a further penalty and an impudent drop goal from captain Conor Armstrong brought the game to a close notching up a good Bowdon away win. 8 -22.

Man of the match the mighty D.J.Brown!

All other Bowdon teams had a good day with victories for both the 2nds and 4ths at home to Burnage and Dukinfield respectively and along with a top win for the 3rds away at Burrows Hill to Winnington Park the clean sweep was complete.

Today see's the u15 Bowdon take on mighty Stockport k.o.11.00hrs if you fancy "a day @ the Clay!"
