An emphatic victory has 3 hat tricks in one game for the home side!

Clay Lane witnessed the first team’s best performance of the season, with the team running in 12 tries in an emphatic win over Oswestry. From the kick off the home side showed that they were out to put last weeks lacklustre performance behind them and show the Clay Lane faithful what they are capable off. On five minutes the forwards worked several phases of rucks to set up Mark Wells to crash over the line for the opening try. In fact this would be the similar for several of the Bowdon tries, great forward work setting up the backs to come away with the glory! Some things in rugby never change!

Bowdon were in the mood for a big score! On seven Minutes the Forwards again became providers when Andre Hechter intercepted a pass between the Oswestry Centres on their 10 meter line. He was chased through the Oswestry Line by Swets who took the pass to beat the full back and score wide out on the right side. Three Minutes later Gabbs opened up his legs and ran half the length of the field to score between the posts! Jack finding his kicking boots and adding the conversion to give Bo’ a 17 : 0 lead.

Bowdon’s fourth try came on 20 minutes with Swets rounding off some great handling by both Forwards and backs. The forwards set up the next try - Neil Bright breaking through the Oswestry defence and finding himself in some space. He set up Thiu who - if he had the Legs would have gone on to score! As he neared the full back he passed to Mark wells to run through between the posts for a converted try. To Oswestry’s credit the came back at Bowdon straight from the re-start and scored their first try.

Sean Convey, coming on as a replacement for Craig Mason, forced a turnover on the half hour, from this the ball broke to Gabbs who again showed a clean pair of heals to the Oswestry defence to dash through and score between the posts. Three minutes latter Swets scored his hat trick after good running from both Gabbs and Mark Wells, Jack Rees converting the last 2 attempts. The final score of the half went to the visitors when some good running and some sloppy tackling allowed Oswestry to score out wide.

Half Time Bowdon 41 : 10 Oswestry

The second half started at a slightly less frenetic pace, it taking 10 minutes for the first score. In fact the score went to Oswestry, again some good running and poor defence led to the visitor scoring out wide for an unconverted try. Swets got the Bowdon scoreboard ticking over again after a great run from Clem, Jack Kicking the extra’s. Swets having now scored 4! - Will we ever hear the last of it!

On the half way mark Mark Wells, taking on the normal Swets roll, burst through the centre of the Oswestry defence, brushing off a couple of would be tacklers to score between the posts, bringing up his hat trick, and giving Jack Rees another 2 points. A few minutes later and it was the turn of Fiji Fred to show what he could do with a mazy run ending with him scoring between the posts Jack again being successful with the conversion.

Clem on the opposite wing was now eager to get on the score sheet and had several good runs but to no avail! Then suddenly he burst through and looked certain to score before the ball was knocked from his hands only a yard or 2 from the line. With everything stopped! Clem picked up the ball and stood there for several seconds - other players from both teams standing staring or walking around. The ref finally blew his whistle for a Bowdon scrum! For the full back knocking the ball from Clem’s hands! The crowd on the side line didn’t understand why Clem didn’t just place the ball over the line to score! All I can say is that the costume he wore in the club afterwards fitted the crime.

The final 2 tries came in the last 3 minutes Gabbs scoring his hat trick the Clem finally scoring his well deserved try. Jackconverting the final one.

Final Score Bowdon 74 : 15 Oswestry.

A fantastic display from the whole team, with the forwards building a solid platform for the backs to run in the tries from! Man of the Match was Mark Wells for a great display in both attack and defence. Dick of the Day - Clem! Next week – away to Port Sunlight.
