This year we were keen to regain the cup at u12 level. There were initially 16 teams at our age group. A couple had dropped out due to weather. We had a strong group of Leigh (won 1-0), Bury (won 6-0), Littleborough (won 1-0) and Rochdale (won 2-0). We won all our group games. After each game we ran back into the club house to take shelter in the changing rooms. The boys were wet through but fought on. The spirit was fantastic in such weather conditions. The timings of the day had gone to pot due to weather. In the semi final we played winners of Group C, Flyde. We had never played before but new they were a big club. Again we stormed out of the club house to face the wind, rain and Flyde. It was a well fought game and we came out eventual winners 2-0. We knew if we won we would be facing a strong York side on tour. The final was amazing, both sides fought hard even with the rain pouring down. Half time it was 0-0. Nothing separated the sides. With a minute left we had possession but a spilled pass allowed York to pressure us near our line. York somehow stole the ball and touched the ball a yard from the try line which the ref gave, although harsh we had to accept! York were a god side but I think they would agree we were as well. I am sure we will have many a good game against each other in the future. Over the day we scored 12 tries and conceded 1. The future looks bright, roll on next season!! The season has been excellent and Mike Jackson has helped the boys progress. He will be missed as he travels to the British Virgin islands.
