Three teams & three finals

A stunning performance from all three Under 9 teams who travelled to
Chester this weekend for the coveted Cheshire Cup.

The Unicorns had a consistently great pool performance beating
Macclesfield, Chester and Crewe all by the score of 5-1, playing
really well as a team, and then losing narrowly in a tight game with
Sale 2-1, but still putting them into a strong second position in
their pool and through to the knock-out stages of the plate
competition. The quarter finals saw more strong performance beating
Caldy 4-2 and then local rivals Wilmslow 5-1.

They went into the final against Caldy's A team having won 5 of 6
games against strong opposition, and having scored 26 tries and
conceded just 7, through some fantastic tackling and defence. Caldy
took the honours in the final but the guys kept going to the end and
won and lost the games like true rugby players. A great all round team
performance, with charging runs, mazy runs, thumping tackles, passes
out wide, interceptions and never-say-try defence on the line.. You
made the club and coaches proud, well done to Sam L, Marcus T, Luke M,
Tom W, Tom M, Noah B, Ed M, Ollie S, Henry D, Matty F and Aidan H.

The Bulls had a difficult start in their Group against a Chester team
that ended up in the Cup final and a strong Wilmslow team but after
two defeats began to find their form. They had a confidence boosting
victory against Anselmians and sealed third in their group with a
strong win against Marple. All of the players were improving game by
game and the strong powerful runs of Bathurst through the middle were
complemented by the firepower out wide of Morgan and Watson. In
defence all of the players tackled hard following the outstanding
example set by Mills who was cutting down the opposition at will.

Into the Bowl competition and a close victory against Kersal in the
quarter final was followed by a resounding win against Crewe&Nantwich
taking the boys to a deserved final appearance. Unfortunately they
came up against a strong Chester team who ran hard and smothered the
Bulls' attacking runners with some good defence and who won it in the
last 2 minutes of the match. The day was a tremendous performance in
which all of the players contributed and, above all, played as a team
and enjoyed themselves. Well done to all of the Bowdon Bulls, Joe,
Dan, James, Rory, Seamus, Matthew, Elliot, Alex, Jamie and Thomas

The Rangers, who were going as defending Cheshire champions showed
excellent handling skills in all their games with some great passes
wide and getting the wingers Tully, Wardle and Fallows in for some
tremendous tries. They did not concede a single try in the group
stages against some tough opposition in the form of Macclesfield and
Sale's A teams, the play makers Mallinder,Finnegan and Legg constant
switching of play ensured the dreaded countback would not be an issue
this year with a try count of 30!

The crunch match against Wirral in the quarter finals saw some awesome
defending from our "Bowdon Bashers" Haigh, Whitmarsh and Malthouse
who held the team together from the centre. A conclusive win against
Sandbach in the semis saw them face hosts Chester in a closely fought
contest, with an outstanding performance from Ronan throughout, they
successfully retained their title in the final 4-2. Awesome
performance guys, we are all very proud of you!
