It is with sad regret that we have to inform club members of the death of Andy Phillips a Bowdon club member and Vice President for nearly 30 years.

Following an accident during the swimming phase of a triathlon Andy was taken to hospital where, despite the best efforts of paramedics and the medial team, he never regained consciousness and passed with his family by his side.

Andy moved into the Hale area in the early 90’s and joined the club playing for the 2nd, 3rd and Vet’s team. He was one of the club members who helped to start the M and J section in 2006 and was also an active Vice President attending most home games and club functions. A passionate Welshman he would be found at most of the Wales home international games, at times, taking along club friends when family members could not attend and make use of his debenture tickets.

He had a love of life and a huge circle of friends and acquaintances across the Hale area and within the Manchester Business community . Since retiring from rugby he took up cycling and was an active cyclist with his old Bowdon Rugby friends.

He was a kind and considerate family man, had a great sense of humour, always a smile on his face, a true gentleman he will be sadly missed by his friends at Bowdon RUFC and the wider community.

Our deepest and sincere condolences go out to Amanda, Seb, Anna and the rest of his family both in Leamington Spa and Cardiff.

When arrangement have been made for his funeral we will let you know through the various communication channels.

RIP - Andy.
