Recap & Rested

Our last game was to Glossop just over a week ago, and we won! I'd like to cover this fixture as an all out Bowdon try fest with the usual suspects smashing, running and scoring like they do week in, week out but sadly it wasn't and missing key players whether it be to injury or to other things it was certainly a crazy time on Thursday evening trying to select the starting teams, a massive headache from the 1sts all the way to the 3rds, making sure every team had the best options available to go and win there relevant games.

The First Team faced Glossop 1's at Home
The Second Team faced Glossop 2's Away
The Third Team faced Northwich 3's Away

1ST XV Recap of the game:
"Looking for a fast pace, heart pounding game which we have had in previous weeks just want to be in this game, it in fact was quite the opposite, some solid defensive plays but both teams struggling to break the line and although Bowdon showed great signs of some promising rugby with an epic intercept by C.Mason which sadly want to be meant it wouldn't amount to anything for some time, Glossop on the other hand looked rather fluent within there chosen play and were predicting the play of the game throughout and lead for 99% of the game 5-0, yep you read that right 5-0, 79 minutes of rugby at 5-0 that's how much Glossop were dominating although a word I would use lightly given that Bowdon's defence was mere inpenitrable in which they only conceded when a small lax in play opened a tiny gap, thankfully on the final play of the game, the stroke of the 79th/80th minute Bowdon through the hands, a quick play, a quick step, a pick of pace brought the game level to 5-5 but a very nervous wait came into play as the conversion was lined up, us all knowing that the wind down at the Clay as made Bowdon suffer some missed kicks so far this season and as the seconds ticked away......the ball was struck almost perfectly and sailed through the posts to bring Bowdon to 7-5 and secure a win, by far it wasn't the most glorious win of the season so far but a win is a win and Bowdon had that! yay!"

2ND XV Recap of the game:
"A cold wet day in the Glossop hills, a pitch etched into the side of a hill with a wonderful view, a view where if you were to pause for a second and look around you would probably think "this would make a good postcard photo" but to play rugby on, awful! especially today zero bounce of the ball and constant showers cutting in to you like ice, but the rugby was under way in a strong starting line up, a fairly exciting line up in all cases especially given the clubs current injury situation. The play started quick with them just trying to break the line or kick over but the first half almost passed with barely any show of either side giving in, a showdown which would test every rugby player at every level, big hits, missed hits, scarpered defence, smooth and slippery attack and I am talking about both sides here. Neither looked close to scoring, an neither looked like they were running the play fast in fact the weather was the only real team player who would cause many mistakes in terms of wet ball, wind and the full backs on both sides had there work cut out for them, the game was almost 35 minutes scoreless on both sides before the play on what was becoming a squelchy pitch opened and the Bowdon 10 crashed down for a try, the conversion sadly taken from the muddiest point of the pitch drifted just wide of the posts meaning C.Monaghan would have to wait to open his Bowdon points account. The second half was all Glossop, they made some changes they became the more fresher side and they capitalised massively on the now mud puddle we were playing on, running them in time after time, although at no point did Bowdon look to be giving up, tired yes but heart they had that until the end. A loss that I am sure the team will feel for some time."

3RD XV Recap of the game:
"A trip to Northwich never pleasant and a to face a tough side coming of the back of 1 win was never ideal, a tough day followed for the thirds who couldn't throw anything together in the scrappy game which sadly seen them lose 22-3. Devastating score following the win against the league leaders the week before. The team now head in to a week off where I am sure they will gather the thoughts of the game, throw them together and work hard on this to get back to winning ways quick"

Following these three games the club went into a rest week and with no game at the weekend the boys funnily enough gathered together to watch the football or in Jonny Edwards words "Soccer", the team remained working hard and training on there week off with some fantastic injury news coming out of the Bowdon camp but we will update you on that on Wednesday with a full returns, outs and away update where we will hear from James Dennis who is back training following a lengthy injury.
