Bowdon share cup title with Sefton after unbeaten run at their first 7's tournament

With around 30 tries for and around 5 against, Bowdon under 12's finished off their season in style with victory at the Hoylake 7's.
We were pooled with teams from Ellesmere Port, Caldy, Port Sunlight and New Brighton on a hazy Sunday on the Wirral.
With strength and speed in the team, we expected to compete but with only an hours 7's training under our belt, we were anything but complacent.
First up, Port Sunlight. A slow start from Bowdon meant the first half was a bit laboured, but the boys then kicked through the gears and saw tries run in from all over the pitch for a comfortable win.
Next was Ellesmere Port who had looked awesome against New Brighton in their first game. So it came as some surprise that we found ourselves 5:0 up at half time. Subbing 4 players was probably not the best move and it disrupted our continuity and allowed Ellesmere to get into the game. They played great running 7's and Bowdon were relieved to see out the match 5:3.
With New Brightons first team in the Cheshire Cup final, their development side found Bowdons game just too much to handle. It was a great spirited match that Bowdon won 8:0. In the final pool game we played our old friends from Caldy. A nervy first half saw the game ebb and flow, with a Bowdon edging the half 2:1. In the second half, however, Bowdon really took a hold and ran out 5:1 winners.
So top of the pool and into the final against Sefton, who were always going to provide a stern challenge.
Our 2 previous encounters were a draw at the mancheter festival and a narrow win for Bowdon at Vale of Lune.
A tough and uncompromising side, Sefton matched Bowdon in the breakdowns and had plenty of strength and speed out wide. Bowdon were first to score with top scorer of the tournament Jack Bradburn taking a great pass out wide and showing why his is the posh schools sprint champ with a dash to the corner.
The second half saw Sefton impose greater strength at scrum and line out and after a few minutes camped on the Bowdon line, they eventually broke over to even the scores.
Great spirit from Bowdon saw them immediately fight back with great passing and running skills, to pile all the pressure back on Sefton.
The final whistle blew and after consultation with all coaches, the ref announced the result a draw and both teams would share the trophy. a fitting way to conclude a very friendly festival at Hoylake. Many thanks to Simon at Caldy who reff'd the final and to all the Sefton coaches and players for such a great contest.
And so that's it for another season and our last at Mini's level.
Thanks to all the coaches, parents and of course players for making this such a great season:
Historic wins over local rivals AK and Lymm
An amazing tour
The coaching session with Toby Flood
Winners at the Hoylake 7's festival
Semi finals of the Cheshire Cup
We have an amazing squad of players now and a great coaching team. I think we can go into next season with confidence and great excitement.
Enjoy the summer.
