A for once dry and sunny Ponderosa saw Bowdon quickly onto the front foot, tries from Will Nicholson and Robbie Agnew giving Bowdon a deserved first quarter lead. The newly reformed Kersal team did manage to get a foothold in the second quarter, scoring a try of their own, but a courageous dive over by Monty Sterling, and a fluent backs move leading to a try for Ben Royle, gave Bowdon a 28-7 half time lead (all tries being converted). Ben's try in particular was a sight for sore eyes, with the backs passing the ball down the line, but only after committing their opponents to the tackle.
Kersall came back strongly in the third quarter, dominating territory and possession, scoring three tries to Bowdon’s one (by Will Nicholson). With the cumulative score now 35-28 Bowdon realised that they had to up their game to secure victory. This they duly did in the fourth quarter, with Bowdon able to bring on rested players and force home the advantage of their larger squad. Five unanswered tries (Chris Schofield, Will Nicholson (x2), Oliver Meredith and Josh Hope) gave the final scoreline of 70-28 a somewhat flattering appearance.
On one final point, Ian Griffiths has uploaded some of the many photos he took at the Winnington Park game, and I would encourage all to take a look. Many thanks Ian.
