Apologies for the brevity of this report, but the writer unfortunately missed the first half of the match, by which time the score was 21-0 to the home team.
Although Bowdon felt, with some justification, that there were some unusual 'interpretations' shown by the referee, the boys slipped back into some old bad habits in terms of missed tackles and reluctance of support players to commit early and wholeheartedly to rucks, thereby coughing up far too much possession. Not until the final period, which Bowdon won by two tries to one, did we see any great fight. The highlight of the Bowdon performance came from new boy Ethan Powell, who made a barnstorming run for two thirds of the length of the pitch, only to be denied by a combination of desperate last ditch defending and the (for once) raised arm of the highly dubious touch judge. The resulting pressure led to a neat interception try for Will Nicholson, to go with a fine poacher's try from Peely, but unfortunately it was all just too little too late.
But upwards and onwards, the coming weekend sees the U12 parents off on their annual tour, duly accompanied by some young rugby players of course, and this year the delights of Derbyshire await. Roll on Saturday!!
