Training intensity reaps rewards

The intensity amongst the forwards was excellent - from the very first whistle their new-found aggression in clearing out at the ruck ensured they secured their own ball on almost every phase of play. This allowed the backs to demonstrate their running prowess to devastating effect. A clear emphasis on looking to pass was there for all to see, and whilst the execution will need to be sharper against stronger teams, the intention was commendable. The support running amongst backs was particularly impressive, allowing our flyers to actually finish off moves, rather than being responsible for scoring all on their own.

The final quarter saw Bowdon finally put under pressure, which was to Northwich's great credit. However, Bowdon showed real determination to keep a clean sheet, which they duly did, with victory finished off by an eleventh try right at the death.

All players got a good run out, and commitment to the tackle was excellent from all. We were treated to some classic tries, with Harry Briscoe (x4) showing his undoubted pace, Harry Martin (x3) showing powerful direct running, Oliver Meredith (x2) with his silky feet, Will Nicholson sublimely outfoxing the defence with a wonderful show and go, and also Benjy Jones, capping a great game in both attack and defence, finishing off a multi-man move move to score a well earned try.
