Well, it certainly took the whole of Sunday to digest this one, such good form, such a good run in the league and Saturday was just not our day.

Why? Did we get to confident? Did we train hard enough? Or did we just think it was going to be a breeze? – I can honestly not answer any of those questions but all I do know is the players are sore, they are gutted and are looking forward to getting back on that training pitch and more so looking forward to rectifying the weekend in the upcoming game against Glossop RUFC.

For Bowdon then, the game started to slow which going of our last 2 games we have done so it wants any scope to go off, we would come into our own, but sadly not. The slow start was capitalised and Hoylake ran free, with Bowdon struggling to string a good set of plays together the majority of the first half pretty much gave Hoylake the run of the mill with them flying up to 13 – 0 before the stroke of half time though Bowdon picked the pace up, picking space, exposing there weak points and broke through to score, the conversion missed the half ended at 13 – 5, a score in a game where Hoylake held a lot of possession gave an insight in to just how well drill the Bowdon team was on defence to keep the opposition out and only allowing them to stick 13 points on us.

The second half, Bowdon flying out the rafters with a point to prove. Knowing full well the first half went against them, knowing they had been doing well so far in the league they needed to strong arm a comeback, and with some fantastic forwards play, M.Waddington being a key figure shaping the play along with C.Mason and T.Gomulko we looked set for a comeback, and in no time at all Bowdon powered over the line, and for the next 10 minutes we dominated, Bowdon’s new lease of life was a joy to witness but unfortunately it wouldn’t last as they began to drop pace, and make mistakes it was gutting to see us be thrown around in a scrappy second half but at the same time we were still holding our own, and at points looked set to win as we lead for the first time in the second half having stuck a further 15 points via try’s on the board but unfortunately missing the conversions cost us in the long run as by the end of the game we were down 27-25 a loss which like I said was a little tough to digest.

Following the game we caught up with James Dennis, to find out what he thought of Saturdays action and how the injury is coming on: “Am gutted for the boys, it’s certainly a tough one to swallow given we played exceptional at times, it’s clear we just need to work on some key areas as we head to next week, my Injuries good, I should be a few weeks out yet but I am looking forward to working my way back in the squad and hopefully seeing us win some more games”.

After we spoke to J.Dennis we grabbed the club captain Neil Bright for a word on the performance and here is what he had to say: “That was a tough one, the better team won and we really really need to be more clinical in attack and could do with bringing a lot more aggression to our game, the pressures really on now as we head into next week but hopefully we can pick our season back up and hope to it – gutted is an understatement for today.”

Bowdon wasn’t all loss though this weekend with their second team securing a 12-6 win over Widnes and the third team getting their first win of the year by beating Crewe and Nantwich 47-17, so some slight positives to build on.

We take on Glossop with a 3pm kick off down at Clay Lane next week be sure not to miss the action and come down where they will be plenty of beer, food and FREE ENTRY! Not to be missed.
