A mistake-littered game, not helped by a ball like a bar of soap, meant a long afternoon at the scrum-face for both sets of forwards, interspersed by occasional handbags. Poor discipline from the Bowdon side saw them spend 30 minutes of the game with 14 men, but the defence during these periods should be commended.
There were a few positives from the afternoon; ex-colts, Cailean Waters, Liam Rafferty and Rory McKenzie, put in great performances, with Cailean carrying well and Rafferty, McKenzie along with wing Owen Hyland fielding plenty of searching high balls. Liam Rice once again proved that he is the fastest second row at the club with his 40-yard try leaving the Widnes defence for dead; and Big Sean earning the nickname ‘The Seal’ from our visitors for his persistent clapping.
A win is a win, and many a Bowdon side of old would have lost this match. Plenty to work on over the coming weeks, including high-ball catching practice for Sean and Pottsy!

**RANT ALERT**
Both the 2nds and 3rds were down to the bare bones on Saturday due to far too many late cry-offs. We all know that occasionally, something comes up last-minute that stops you from playing, but please don’t commit to playing if you have no intention of turning up!
**RANT OVER**
